Mary DeRisi, Studio Manager
Mary began her practice of Yoga in college many years ago and returned to it 12 years ago after a back injury. She's been
attending Yoga classes at We Are One/Inner Reaches for approximately the last 6-7 years, studying with Sharon Neubauer. She
has also attended several Anusara Yoga workshops with John Friend, Betsey Downing, Kathleen Hogan, and Heather Schwartz.
Two years ago, Sharon offered a Yoga Immersion program to a small group of students. Mary decided to deepen her knowledge of
Yoga asana and philosophy and joined the Immersion group. After the program ended, one of the Immersion students went onto
to a Yoga Teacher Training at a different studio. This planted the seed of perhaps one day she would become a teacher as well.
Then Dee Gold, owner of Inner Reaches studio, offered a Yoga Teacher Training opportunity, and last November she became a
Certified Yoga Teacher/200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance.
Mary's background as a Massage Therapist for the past 12 years, her meditation practice, and her love of Yoga naturally gave
her the knowledge of the body, mind, and the spirit to allow her to pursue and accomplish her desire to become a Yoga teacher.
Her practice is spiritual, yet light hearted!
She has recently become the Studio Manager of We Are One/Inner Reaches.
Sharon Neubauer
...is a Certified Anusara Yoga teacher. She came to Yoga in 1996 looking for a physical discipline to help with her work as
an actress. She began teaching in 1999 after completing the Teacher Training Program with Betsey Downing at The Health
Advantage Yoga Center in Herndon, VA. She has completed several Teacher and Therapy Trainings with John Friend, the founder
of Anusara Yoga as well as a level I Anusara Yoga Teacher Training with Kathleen Hogan and Mary Romeau, She has also
studied Iyengar Yoga with Mary Dunn, John Schumacher and Carolyn Bluemle. Sharon did Yoga throughout her three complete
pregnancies, and she teaches with warmth, compassion, playfulness and a lively sense of humor.
Abby Spencer
...began taking yoga in 2002 after many years of aerobic training, fitness
walking, and other forms of exercise that helped her manage the physical and
mental stresses of working in a demanding law office. Upon turning 40 she began
to seek an exercise discipline that would be kinder to her body and enrich her
spiritually as she aged. Abby is grateful to have found her first teacher,
Hillary Blackton at Divine Life Yoga in Gaithersburg, MD. Under Hillary’s
tutelage, Abby found that her life became more balanced, she was physically
stronger, and she enjoyed a deep sense of stillness previously unknown to her.
It was then that she became inspired to share the gift of yoga by training to
teach. In 2006, after studying for a year with Dee Gold at Inner Reaches, Abby
began apprenticing in Dee’s yoga classes. After assisting Dee for a year and a
half, Abby began teaching Hatha Yoga classes at Inner Reaches in 2008. Dee’s
influence is evident in Abby’s yoga classes, which emphasize the integration of
mind, body, and spirit as a path toward a happy and fulfilling life.
Anita Kapoor
...is a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance (200 hours) and has been pursuing the practice of yoga for nearly 30 years. An
ardent student of Anusara Yoga for eight years with Kathleen Hogan, Anita became inspired to enter the teacher training
program at Willow Street Yoga Center in Silver Spring, MD where she cultivated her heart-centered approach to teaching.
Her goal is to help students connect with all parts of themselves, within and without, so that they can enjoy a healthy,
wholesome and balanced life while gaining a deeper understanding of themselves. Anita encourages her students to apply the
many lessons of yoga to their daily lives. She is known for her compassionate and gentle spirit and her light-hearted humor.
Dainis Jirgensons
...has been practicing yoga since grade school. He began his study of Tai Chi (Taiji) over 20 years ago with Robert Smith, a
respected teacher of the internal martial arts (Taiji, Bagua, and Xingyi.) Qigong is a major component of these arts and
Dainis is honored to share his knowledge of both, Tai Chi & Qigong with the Inner Reaches community. His other interests
include playing music (piano and flute) and maintaining a therapeutic massage practice.
Kate Gold (Keko)
Kate Gold will practice yoga anywhere! She wants her students to do the same. Her yoga experience is featured in the internationally
acclaimed yoga book, You Don’t Have to Stand on Your Head by Dee Gold, her mother and mentor. As a recent graduate of the Inner
Reaches Yoga & Health 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program she is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. Kate is also
a Maryland Licensed, Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and ABMP Certified Massage Therapist and Bodyworker. Her love of anatomy
and body therapies inspires her teaching and imbues her classes with joy and enthusiasm.
Manny Sanchez
Manny Sanchez found his way to yoga in 2004 at the age of 42 when Kate Gold, an employee of his auto repair shop, convinced him it
would help ease his chronic back pain. He liked it so well that he took his first yoga class at Inner Reaches and agreed to be
featured, along with Kate, in the award-winning book, “You Don’t Have to Stand on Your Head.” Manny is grateful to Justin Frank,
his first teacher, for introducing him to the power of yoga as a tool for self-discovery and for demonstrating that strength and
flexibility can go hand-in-hand.
He has since taken yoga instruction at Inner Reaches with Dee Gold and Abby
Spencer, both of whom inspired him to consider teaching. Manny graduated from
the Inner Reaches 200-hour teacher-training program in November 2010. His
technical skills as a master auto mechanic easily translate to an understanding
of the workings of the human body.
Manny’s desire as a yoga teacher is to demonstrate, especially to other men, that yoga increases physical and mental strength and
agility, improves communications, and enhances relationships with self and others.
Sarah Wimsatt
Sarah began her study of yoga
in 2003. She immediately
realized the power of the
practice as a transformational
process that ultimately helped
her strengthen her body, mind
and spirit.
She called upon this strength later when she entered a 12-step recovery
program. Sarah embraced yoga with a passion and undertook a 200-hour Classical
Yoga Teacher Training at the urban ashram, Kashi Atlanta, under the direction of
Swami Jaya Devi Bhagavati.
She is grateful to the many wonderful teachers and mentors who guided her
through the process of learning to live a yogic lifestyle which is integral to
her teaching. The skill of making one conscious choice at a time by being fully
present to each moment is foundational to Sarah’s life and to her teaching.
Sarah believes that teaching yoga offers her a joyful opportunity to do
service in the community. She sees herself as a student first and a teacher
second, always learning through interaction with others. Forever grateful for
the gift of yoga, Sarah is passionate about sharing its benefits. Her classes
are inspiring, challenging and fun!
