Vinyasa or
Flow
|
Vinyasa, in Sanskrit, literally means "to place
in a special way" or "the intelligent putting together of
things." In yoga, a vinyasa flow indicates
that asanas are practiced in a special sequence
that flows with (and from) the movement of breath. Generally speaking,
all yoga "flow" classes can be considered vinyasa.
This type of practice is especially well suited to those who prefer
movement to stillness. High energy types love vinyasa!
While intense focus on breath calms the mind, the continuous movement of
the body through a sequence of poses, brings internal peace, culminating
in deep relaxation.

Intermediate Anusara Yoga
|
Anusara Yoga integrates the principles of body
awareness and structural alignment with a celebration of heart energy. Accurate
sensing of muscular action combined with visualization of natural energy
flow creates a soulful, heart-centered practice that promotes heightened
awareness, lasting wellness, positive outlook, and compassion for self
and others. Students must have prior yoga experience. A previous Anusara
class is helpful, though not necessary.

Qigong
|
In the tradition of Chinese martial
arts, Qigong mindfully aligns posture while intentionally regulating the
gentle, flowing movement of the body with the breath. A Qigong session
includes a warm-up, an exercise form, and a standing meditation as a
closing. Like Yoga and Pilates, Qigong is a "core" exercise
that is kind to the joints and muscles, and stretches, tones, and relaxes
the whole body.
